Existing Situation

Tata Communications is a USD $3.2 billion (FY13) telecommunication company in India, serving as a global provider of communication services to leading enterprises and small service providers. Tata Communication produced more than 400 prints per day, with multiple printers spread across the Kolkata branch. Maintaining a number of printers bought from multiple brands and vendors led to excess confusion while settling invoices. Moreover, maintaining and tracking so many devices along with their consumables, buying the compatible spare, installation of software demanded a huge fraction of the administrative time, deviating its attention from other important issues.


Problem Statement

As a result of poor printing environment, the organization faced additional monthly expenditure on papers, toners etc. Misuse and mis-handling of printers was yet another persisting problem with no one to track them. They wanted a solution that would relieve them from this expense and also reduce the CAPEX vested on purchasing new devices after the existing ones were dismantled.


Solution Offered

The situation showed that installation of one machine on rent was enough. One MFD with a capacity of 40 ppm would suffice the requirement of the entire office and hence, it was not necessary to shed money on various devices, which was one of their main business needs - reduction of printing cost. It took one working day to install the printer, required software and connecting them to the devices across the organization. It was Somnetics who took care of other related issues such as supply of papers, spares, consumables and toners from time to time, instead of putting the worry on the part of the Client.
